Twitter’s hockey-stick growth continues in Europe, the Middle East and Africa according an analysis of ComScore data conducted by Edelman Digital.
From November 2009 to November 2010, Twitter usage in a select group of EMEA countries increased 64%.
Fastest moving markets were Spain, where monthly usage increased by 151% during the period, and the Middle East, where Twitter usage was up 104%.
The UK remained EMEA’s biggest single market for Twitter, with nearly 5 million visitors in November 2010, even though its growth was the slowest of the markets we analysed. (The Middle East has more users, but ComScore isn’t yet able to give us a break down by market.)

Italy and South Africa are the markets with the lowest Twitter usage, but both showed signs of growth over the last year, increasing by 50% and 68% respectively.
It’s worth remembering that while these figures are a useful yard stick for Twitter usage and growth, they likely undercount both substantially owing to the number of Twitter users who interact with the platform via mobile devices and desktop applications like TweetDeck.
To conduct our analysis, we reviewed ComScore’s monthly unique visitor estimates to Twitter.com for the UK, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, South Africa, and the Middle East.
