Health Digital Check-Up: Health Comes Back to SXSW

Is it that time of the year already!?

It was just a few short months ago that more than forty Edelman team members returned from South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive 2011 where they had the opportunity to meet, listen, and present to everyone from fellow public relations professionals and advertisers to gamers, developers, psychologists and user-interface designers.

Specific to health, members of the Edelman Digital health community interacted with physicians, hospital administrators, patients and marketers, and provided their

Health Digital Check-Up: Physical Meets Digital

As adoption of digital in the health space continues to grow, it’s important that we look to the next frontier and focus on opportunities to interconnect our physical and digital worlds. This year at SXSW, Google’s Marissa Meyer took the stage to talk about how Google will connect the digital and physical worlds through mobile. During her talk, Meyer astutely described the mobile phone as, “a cursor…

Thumbs Up for SXSW 2011

Only a few months ago we were in Austin attending panels, interviewing amazing social media entrepreneurs and hosting AllHat2 at SXSW. Once again, the time has come for us to get ready for Interactive geek week, which starts by selecting…

Health Digital Check-Up: Social Health 2010 Wrap-Up

In the shadow of Austin’s annual South by Southwest (SXSW) Music, Film and Interactive Festival, a less prominent – but no less passionate – group of health social media experts and enthusiasts met in March for the Social Health 2010 Conference. They gathered to discuss how health organizations engaging in social media are addressing not only regulatory issues, but also logistical concerns such as the time and costs involved in maintaining social media programs.

Participants from around the country represented a…

What SXSW Taught Me About Social Systems, And Business

Less than a week has passed since the interactive portion of SXSW, a Mecca for the world’s digerati, wrapped up. Some have written scathing reviews vowing never to return and others provided a more balanced look. From…

Checking-In: Foursquare At SXSW Music

It’s no secret that bands and music biz folks are early social media adopters – especially in today’s shallow-pocketed music industry environment, where getting the word out cheaply is the name of the game. That’s why it’s always interesting to see what the movers and shakers at the annual SXSW Music conference are doing to promote themselves and their artists, and this year promised at least one above-the-radar partnership that I was excited to see in action.

The most buzzed-about was probably the

SXSW Essentials: Practical Guidance On Blogger Disclosure And FTC Guidelines

There were hundreds of interactive panels at South by Southwest (SXSW). The session on blogger disclosure and credibility may not have had any fancy prognostications about the future of the real-time web or grand reveals of bold creative insights, but the practical, straightforward guidance on the do’s and don’ts for blogger engagement was among the most important exchanges of the entire conference.

Ever since the FTC unveiled new guidelines for disclosure, there has been a lot of uncertainty about how the guidelines…

SXSW Video Interview Roundup

SXSW was a gathering of innovative companies, forward thinking people, and interactive influencers. While I didn’t have a chance to talk to all 15,000 attendees, I was able to speak to a few choice companies that have progressive products in the social media and technology realm.

Brackets With Benefits

Dan Morrison is on a mission to change the world. More accurately, he’s on a mission to get others to help him change the world. He started Citizen Effect last fall to give everyday people the tools and networks they need to work directly with, and make a difference in communities around the world. He calls those who engage citizen philanthropists. We’ve taken on four projects at Edelman, and if you you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I’m an active…

Playing Foursquare With Dennis Of Foursquare

Earlier today a group of Foursquare employees gathered outside the Austin Convention Center to start an impromptu game of real foursquare. I tried my best to become “king”, but I quickly realized I’m not as talented as I was in fourth grade. I was able to talk to Foursquare co-founder Dennis Crowley while he was on a break from playing. Watch the video where we discuss the 1 year Foursquare birthday celebration, his badge/check-in status, and his favorite social media tools.
