Hi –
Authenticities is the official blog of Edelman Digital - the digital practice of Edelman, worldwide.
We plan to use this space to showcase and comment on communications programs that we find especially refreshing because of their authenticity, as well engage all respectful members of the digital community in a series of conversations about authenticity, authentic communications, cultural trends and emerging technologies that may impede or speed their adoption, and so on.
The debate over what is and isn't authentic (and why it matters) is likely to be rich, complex and never-ending. Wikipedia defines authenticity as being true to one's personality, spirit and values. Pine & Gillmore talk about Real & Fake. Either way, our own data tell us that people trust the opinions of others like them more than any other source. Why? Because people like them listen to them, talk with and not at them, help them when they need it, and oftentimes ask for their help… and mean it.
We think authentic communications is where it's at. We know we don’t have all the answers, and never will. What we hope this blog inspires you to do is to get engaged. Feel free to challenge anything we say; you're quite likely every bit as right as we are. That said, please honor the principles of authentic communications in doing so; transparency and mutual respect are paramount.
