As you know, I'm heading to mesh08 next week in Toronto and I did a quick interview with each of the founders. To make it easy on them, I sent them each the same five questions.
Here are Matt Ingram's answers.
1. What is your favorite anecdote or moment from the past two mesh conferences?
My favourite moment from the past two mesh conferences probably came during the first one, when I stood at the top of the escalator leading down into the Mars concourse and saw hundreds of people eating and talking and laughing and clearly enjoying themselves at a conference I helped organize -- I had to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming or not.
2. What is one of the things you are most excited about this year?
This year, I think I'm looking forward the most to a presentation by Mike Masnick of Techdirt, who is talking about the "economics of abundance" and how business models change when the Web brings the marginal cost of content down effectively to zero.
3. What is the rest of the year like for you, when you aren’t in mesh mode?
When I'm not in mesh mode, I'm pretty much blogging all the time -- except when my family tears me away from the keyboard, or when there's a power failure.
4. What digital trend do you expect to see have a break-through year in 2008?
I think 2008 will see the mobile Web really take off for mainstream users, with devices like the iPhone and better BlackBerrys and cellphones coming out, as well as higher speeds for cell networks. If you look at what people are doing with their iPhones, it's mostly Web surfing rather than phone calls. I think that's going to continue.
5. If you could pick a theme song for mesh08, what would it be?
mesh 2008 theme song? Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger by Daft Punk
