Recently hundreds of digital and social media professionals took the streets, conference rooms (and bars) of the Windy City to participate in Chicago Social Media Week. The week was jam packed with meetups, cocktail hours, panels and parties, attended by a bevy of brands, agencies, industry experts and even local celebrities on the social media scene. There was also one special guest—a 2012 Volkswagen* Turbo we like to call the EdelBug. You may have spotted the EdelBug, cruising Chicago, hosting a week-long event on wheels and generating content and conversation along the way, using the hashtag #SMWEdelBug.
Like any celebrity, the EdelBug made a splash by attending the opening night party at Rockit and having its picture taken by fans, but the bug is more than just curves and a cute design. It’s also a thing of substance—providing rides to and from events, offering snacks to hungry passengers (courtesy of clients Orville Redenbacher and Slim Jim) and encouraging people to share their social media stories. Thought leaders, industry experts and social media week attendees had the chance to participate in EdelBug interviews, network with our recruiters and even win some fun prizes, all while riding in style in the bug.

Hear what Leyla Arsan, Digital Strategist with ZENO Group, had to say about the first person she followed on Twitter, and how Jessica Zweig, founder of Cheeky Chicago, described the impact of social media on her business.
Edelman also participated in several events outside the bug, including a panel led by Jenn Sutherland, Edelman Digital Vice President, on the types of content drive social sharing and engagement and a session on Pinterest best practices, featuring our resident Pinterest expert, Diana Kelter. We opened our doors to host a breakfast panel for up-and-coming social media experts with PRSA Young Professionals Network and partnered with Word of Mouth Marketing Association for Wine Wednesday, featuring tours of our Social Intelligence Command Center showing Social Media Week conversation in real-time.
