Social networking is now as important to the online experience in Latin America as it is in North America or Europe.
Half of the top 10 worldwide markets by time spent on social networking sites are in Latin America with, for example, Argentina leading the region at 10 hours per month as of June 2011.
The past year has seen the confirmation of Facebook as the leading social platform across the region, with five of the top 10 markets in the region. In Brazil, a 82% year on year growth has also helped Facebook reach almost 25m user in the country, which should allow it to overtake Orkut as the leading platform in the next 18 to 24 months.
Twitter has also grown steadily, to reach 24.3m users across the region.
Meanwhile, Google + achieved an impressive growth across the region, with Brazil ranking as the 6th most represented country within a month of the launch.
