On Tuesday, November 30, the Edelman team helped eBay (client) launch the eBay Mobile Commerce Infographic to support eBay’s mobile commerce leadership position in a bold, unique and transparent way. The “Mobile Heat Map” was used to highlight eBay’s 146% year over year mobile sales growth on Cyber Monday and the days leading up to what is typically the largest online shopping day of the year. Mobile transaction data was updated on the daily basis and continued to be a useful and unique story telling tool around eBay’s biggest mobile shopping day of the year (December 12th), where eBay generated $13 million in mobile transaction volume on a global basis.
The Infographic is an interactive tool where media and even consumers can view a geo-targeted heat map based on the top six international markets, compare categories and discover the top categories in a specific market. The data represents eBay’s top 20 categories and the total value of items purchased or Gross Merchandise Bought (GMB) on mobile devices.
There is also a “Mobile Trends” ticker at the bottom of the Infographic that is updated manually to reflect trends in the map and other trends in eBay mobile shopping data.
Richard Brewer-Hay, eBay corporate blogger and curator of the eBay Ink Blog (@ebayinkblog) had this to say, “I thought the Interactive map was one of the more innovative things I’ve seen in quite some time. Not only did it give insight and data previously unavailable to consumers, but it did so in a cutting edge way that is something I really hope we build on for the future.”

This infographic was picked up by top-tier media including the New York Times, Mobile Commerce Daily and TechCrunch. The map was tweeted more than 1,000 times.
